Crowds Rush to Buy Gold on the God of Wealth Day – How Much Profit So Far?
Despite price drops of tens of millions of VND at times, those who bought gold on the God of Wealth Day in 2025 have so far gained around VND 91 million per tael.
For many years, buying gold on the God of Wealth Day (the 10th day of the first lunar month) has become a common tradition for many people. Over the past decade, gold shops have been packed with customers on this occasion. Some people buy just 0.5–1 chi, while many others purchase several taels, even dozens of taels.
For them, buying gold on this day is not only to pray for good luck but also considered a form of long-term savings and a hedge against risks.
Speaking to VietNamNet, Ms. Chu Thị Hồng Phương from Phú Thượng (Hanoi) shared that she has been buying gold on the God of Wealth Day for many years. However, the amount she purchases each year depends on her family’s available savings. Some years she buys only 1–2 chi, while in other years she buys more.
“Last year, I bought one tael of sealed gold ring jewelry at a price of over VND 89.8 million. Compared to the current price, I have gained nearly VND 91 million per tael,” she said. As for the gold rings she purchased more than 10 years ago, their value has now increased by four to five times.

In reality, gold prices are currently in the strongest bull cycle in history, with fluctuations reaching tens of millions of VND per tael in a single trading session.
For example, in late January and early February this year, gold prices experienced extreme volatility. On January 29, the price hit an all-time high of VND 191.2 million per tael. Immediately afterward, the precious metal nearly went into free fall.
Last week, Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) gold prices at one point plunged to VND 163–166 million per tael (buy–sell). Compared to the peak of VND 191.2 million per tael recorded on January 29, gold dropped by more than VND 25 million per tael. Taking into account the VND 3 million gap between buying and selling prices, many investors suffered losses of over VND 28 million per tael in just three sessions.
Even so, in 2025, gold prices rose by 65%, and continued to climb nearly 30% within the first 29 days of the new year 2026.
As a result, those who lined up to buy gold on the God of Wealth Day in previous years have so far reaped substantial profits.
Data compiled by VietNamNet show that since 2018, gold ring prices on each subsequent God of Wealth Day have generally been higher than the previous year (except for 2022).
Accordingly, gold rings surged from VND 37.2 million per tael in 2018 to VND 180.7 million per tael (selling price) as of early morning February 9, 2026. That means current gold ring prices have increased by VND 143.5 million per tael, equivalent to a 385.8% rise compared to 2018.
Specifically, on the God of Wealth Day in 2018 (February 25), 1–5 chi gold rings were listed by Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) at VND 37.2 million per tael (selling price).
By the following God of Wealth Day (February 14, 2019), the price of the precious metal had edged up slightly to VND 37.25 million per tael. This means that those who bought gold on the 2018 God of Wealth Day and sold it one year later would have incurred a loss of VND 350,000 per tael.
However, on the God of Wealth Day in 2020 (February 3), SJC gold rings surged to VND 44.45 million per tael, marking a sharp increase of VND 7.2 million per tael in just one year.
In 2021, gold ring prices on the God of Wealth Day (February 21) continued to climb strongly by another VND 10.45 million per tael, reaching VND 54.9 million per tael (selling price). Nevertheless, the price unexpectedly declined by VND 700,000 per tael to VND 54.2 million per tael on the 2022 God of Wealth Day (February 10).
In 2023, on the God of Wealth Day (January 31), gold ring prices resumed a modest upward trend, rising to VND 55.5 million per tael.
After that, plain round gold rings entered a period of rapid growth, reaching VND 64.7 million per tael on the God of Wealth Day in 2024 (February 19).
On the God of Wealth Day in 2025 (February 7), SJC gold rings were listed at VND 89.8 million per tael—an increase of VND 25.1 million per tael compared to the previous year.
Notably, by the morning of February 9, 2026, the price had surged to VND 180.7 million per tael. Compared to the 2025 God of Wealth Day, gold ring prices had risen by VND 90.9 million per tael, equivalent to a 101.2% increase.
With a gain of over 100%, gold has become an attractive investment channel, delivering the best returns amid relatively low bank interest rates and an unpredictable stock market.
